Sharing information and learning for early years practitioners
Laura Martin, senior
programme officer maternal and child health, reports on the work of
the network
The National Early Years Network, coordinated by NHS Health
Scotland, has been formed to help share information and learning
for early years practitioners across professional groups and
organisations. The network is based on principles within the
Early Years Framework which highlight the importance of partnership
working and common understanding to achieve the best outcomes for
children and families.
A new maternal and early years
professional website supports the network.
The site contains information, advice and resources for
professionals working with young children and families. This
is to make sure that all staff have the same information and give
consistent messages to parents. It encourages users to
explore issues outwith their traditional professional remit,
through summary articles which introduce the topic and give key
messages. More in-depth information is also supplied including
external links and further resources, down to the detail of NICE
guidance for those looking for more.
Practitioners can sign up to the network on the home page and
receive monthly newsletters. The newsletters give
information on recent early years research and evidence,
publications, events and training.
Network members can also meet in person at the annual national
conference to share and discuss ideas. This gives them the
chance to update others about their work on early years and learn
about national policy. Details of the annual conference are
circulated through the monthly newsletter.
