A new initiative 'Roots of Empathy' is being rolled out across
16 council areas in Scotland. The scheme is designed to increase
empathy and nurturing behaviour in primary school age children.
Babies and their parents visit classrooms monthly and pupils are
encouraged to talk about the baby's feelings and needs. Roots of
Empathy is an evidence-based program that has been shown to
be effective in reducing levels of aggression among
schoolchildren by raising social/emotional competence and
increasing empathy.
