A new initiative 'Roots of Empathy' is being rolled out across 16 council areas in Scotland. The scheme is designed to increase empathy and nurturing behaviour in primary school age children. Babies and their parents visit classrooms monthly and pupils are encouraged to talk about the baby's feelings and needs. Roots of Empathy is an evidence-based program that has been shown to be effective in reducing levels of aggression among schoolchildren by raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy.
